Friday Nights

I look forward to Friday night dinners. Selda always brings challa, salmon and chicken. Everyone is here and it feels like family time. It is also a day when I spend time working on special projects like learning new skills. Today I did Yoga and went to a Career day at the college where I am teaching to see students portfolios.

I teach class on Thursday nights and last night instead of speaking, we were treated to a lecture by Joshua Davis who does some really cool computer generated art in Flash. He was very inspiring. For some reason, I am feeling pulled in by the arts. Most of my close friends are artists and the new people that I am meeting are also in the art or entertainment world. I am not sure where this is leading me, but I feel the need to exercise my creativity.

Hope is taking piano and loving it. I think that it is really important for children to learn an instrument when they are young. She seems to be picking it up very quickly and hopefully it will improve her reading skills. Joey hasn’t really expressed any special talents other than doing the Happy Feet dance and hitting things. We will see what he ends up liking. Probably things that involve hitting stuff and balls.

Hope wrote a really cute book called the Alien ABCs. I am going to into a pdf and will be attaching it shortly. I just love that she is so creative. She is now writing a book called, My Friend’s Birthday

9 years

We went to skiing in Killington VT for our 9 year anniversary. Les made all the arrangements and it was a great surprise! We really enjoyed it and Vermont is beautiful. The people up there were so friendly. Not fake friendly, but small town friendly. I hope to go back there again next year.

Quotes from the kids

From Joey when Hope was crying because we were going on a hike and she did not want to go.
“I not crying, I too happy”

Hope’s new saying

” Yo, wikiwiki” (who knows where this came from)

Color

Purple Day

Green Day

Joe has been learning his colors and he has color days at school where he is supposed to wear that color and they talk about it. My mom came up with the cute idea to make him shirts that correspond to the color. The first shirt was a purple airplane. The second was a green truck. The third was a brown shirt. It was a cute idea. We will see if he gets anymore of these.

We have been doing fun family stuff after dinner at night. Last night Hope did her valentines day cards for her classmates. The night before it was scrabble. I think that we could all brush up on our spelling/language skills. It is hard to think of words with more than four letters. Les blew us all out of the water with his triple word bonuses.

I found an excellent book for the kids on kids yoga! They really like it. It has fun animal poses and tips on doing yoga with children.

Nothing like family

The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of activity. It started when our good friend Paul invited everyone to our house for a football party and didn’t tell us. I had one day to pull everything together and we had a ton of fun… until Les threw up.

Les locked him self in the bathroom and when we got him out, he was not feeling well. As it turned out, he had the flu. I was up at 4:30 with the unpleasantness and my mom got it during the middle of the next day. We all took turns lying on the couch in agony while the kids (who were fine) ran around doing whatever they wanted.

I think that was Martin Luther King day. Good thing I had it off. That Wednesday morning, Shani arrived from Israel. Thank goodness she hung out with Shoshie for the day. Shani is our niece who is almost my age. she has two children slightly younger than mine whom she left back in Israel.

Jonathan her brother and our nephew, who is my age, came in the afternoon. We had a great time taking turns hanging out with them. I took them to the bodies exhibit in the city (it will make you rethink what you are doing to your body) and we ate out allot.

While they were here, I planned a surprise birthday party for Les who turned 42. He was really surprised and because of our recent sickness, not too excited at first. But we made it until 3 in the morning listening to him play music.

Jonathan, who was leaving the next morning got the flu and spent the next day in bed which was unfortunate because we had Missy, Brian and Zack in town from Pennsylvania, Uncle Sel up from Alabama and Jonathan and Shani’s dad came from New Jersey.

Phew…. it was allot of fun and it has been hard to get back to the normal schedule without all the excitement and running around.

Here are some pictures.
